some shots from MLN
Everyone made the effort to dress elegantly for the event - men in tux, ladies in evening gowns. Yes, including us.
Idlan and I did an extensive search for neckties. I even learned how to tie a necktie (the last time I wore a tie was in primary school in Aberdeen, 22 years ago!!!) - crash course was given by Idlan.
Now that is effort!

On a second thought, I would like to see Fu, instead of Ebdon at the final. If Ebdon plays, the match is going to be annoying and boring to watch, as he takes ages just to make a single shot!

Girlfriends
On the 10th of April, I was supposed to be on a plane to Barcelona for a 11-day trip around Spain with Anin and Elly - my girl friends from high school. But after much deliberations, I came to a decision of not going. Too much at stake. Breaking the news was not easy.
So, to make up, I travelled down to London for a day to spend time with the girls. We had a ride on the London Eye, and on a carousel - which was so much fun!!!, lunched at Wagamama on the South Bank, strolled in the park, but the best part was, the moments of being together. We talked about our life, we reminisced, we giggled and we laughed. And we hope and pray for the best in each other's future.
Us, ten years after we left high school.

Having two laptops is a bliss
thesis has become a conditional love
It is indeed (though the second laptop is not technically mine).
My latest interest is in snooker. With the World Snooker Championship currently taking place, the BBC Sport Snooker website has become my 'bible'. It is such a pain not to be able to watch the match live. So by turning my laptop to become a screen which shows live match direct from the Crucible - minus the 10 secs delay, is heaven. I can still do my work on the second laptop, and watch the live match on the other laptop. Women and multi-tasking, don't ever doubt it!
Today's match between Stephen Hendry and Nigel Bond is one of a kind. If I got this right, their first match against one another was way back in 1997, and since then, Bond was defeated by Hendry in every single match. So today's match was really amazing. It was really a tough one. They played to the end of 19 frames, and, if that was not enough, the 19th frame was tied! So they had to play the black ball game. At the end the luck was with Bond. I think he deserves it.
"Stephen has given me a few pastings and it's payback time." - Nigel Bond
*Whilst interest can be developed and gradually grown on you, can it be the same to people?
*I so want to see Steve Davies beats Shaun Murphy in tomorrow's second round. No personal reason.

Practice makes perfect - part two

In the afternoon we took the footpath from Scotforth to the University, headed to the duck pond.
Bluest skies. Bright lights. Spruced up the shots.

Practice makes perfect

What's the best way to appreciate a good weather? For those who live in places such as Lancaster would definitely say a good long walk. And that was what we - Idlan and I, exactly did. Ok, maybe not exactly long, but definitely a good walk.
Equipped ourselves with cameras, we left home immediately after Asar and went for a walk to Williamson Park. It has been years since both of us last went there. For photographer enthusiasts like us, it was a good way to reveal the potential within us - the ability to create some great shots. As if!

Heal me, I'm toothache
DV tapes were used for this
Read the title as if you were singing "heal me, I'm heartsick.." - by No Vacancy
Today is Good Friday - the Catholics abstain and fast to mourn the death of Jesus. The University is pretty much dead because of the four days Easter weekend.
At 7 am, I'm already at the department, signing in on the security sheet. Half an hour before that, I was still contemplating whether to go to uni, or just do my writing up at home today. But remembering the DV tapes that need to be transfered, I got out of bed and hit the shower. And I was ready in pronto - I skipped my 5 minutes ritual in front of the mirror
And here I am, sitting in front of my machine. Cannot concentrate much on my thesis at this moment because of this toothache I'm having since yesterday. I don't think it's the tooth. The swollen gum rather around the wisdom tooth. When I was younger, people say that when this happens, it means you are getting taller, or, there's still possibility for you to get taller. But at this age, I don't think this still applies. Urgh.. where's the painkiller?

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Ok. This is my way of reading a novel, or finising rather. I start off very well with few pages, and in the situation where I find the book is such a good read, maybe two chapters. Then put it down and do other things. Get back to the book before I go to bed to get another few pages done - if I'm not too tired. Else, it will stay untouch until I find time to finish up the book without feeling guilty.
For this particular novel, the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which I bought months ago - a collection of Paulo Coelho books (of 5) for the price of 9.99 GBP, I found a way to get round to finish up the novel in such a record time - book a ticket to see its adaptation (its stage version) and make the date as your deadline.
The story is about a journey of a shephard boy from his home in Spain into Egypt to find treasures at the Pyramids. Above all, this story is about following your heart. Omens are there for you to listen and follow. And when you put your mind and heart to one thing, you will find the treasure, though some time it may not be as straightforward as you expect it to be, but you will find it eventually. And although some things are maktub, or written, we can still re-write it.
The most interesting quote from this novel is this: "When you want something, all the world conspires in helping you to achieve it."
The stage version was great! the props, though very minimal, managed to bring the scenes to life. It was brilliant and funny, especially the camels . and as I was watching the scene when the British man telling the boy how he wanted to find the alchemist, I was sort of thinking. How this man left everything he has behind him to travel to Egypt, just to find one man, the man, the alchemist, to answer to his questions. and the alchemist happens to be a 200 years old wise, arab man. this just shows how muslims at that time are among the most intelligent people and are sought by many. the westerns travel across the globe just to seek knowledge from these people. And this, makes me want to go and see the 1001 inventions exhibition even more.

My (3 to the power of 3)-th birthday do
My birthday-do just gets better each year. and I owe this to my friends, especially in Lancaster, who willingly volunteered themselves, hehhe, to spend their time with me on my special day. To my housemates, I enjoyed the time we spent in Manchester. It was Idlan's idea and I thanked her for that, because it's about time I get out of Lancaster after three months stuck in this place. and to Kak Azean for changing her mind to join us To Laila, Sara, Fatin and Azhar - for the lovely time at the Crow's. It's been a while since I last had such a long -birthday- evening
and not forgetting to all my friends, where ever you are, and mom and dad and my sisters, and aiman, who'd been so thoughtful. Thanks for all your wishes and prayers. and InshaAllah, next birthday I will be with you guys in Malaysia.

Meeting the new UPM Vice Chancellor
@ Estikutum restaurant, Sheffield - this used to be a very old, dingy, pub. It was so dingy that you refused to use their sink to even wash your hands! Kudos to their excellent job in transforming the place into an exclusive restaurant.
about Sheffield
We left the motorway and followed the sign to the Meadowhall. So many memories about this place. This place used to be a place I called home. I wanted badly to go home in Woodhouse, to Aiman. Just like old times. How I hate changes.
about the awaiting career
In a few months time, inshaAllah, I will be embarking on a new journey in life - a life with a career. It's going to be a strange and a difficult ride, to adapt to a new lifestyle. But I look forward to this. Because I bet it will be challenging! Who am I kidding! I'm going to be totally screwed, mentally, for a little while, that's for sure. But knowing myself, I will get through it.
about moving on
Successful people live their dreams. So, dream, and live it!
